I really don’t know much about this travel album or journal yet. I have not tried to read it prior to having it scanned so that I can work through it, take notes, and try my best to transcribe the late 19th-century cursive the best I can. I have never been the best at reading old handwriting.

Some of the Locations, names, and dates: (not all of them)

  • St. Louis, May 22, 1856 - Frances A Hill (Page 4)

  • St. Louis, March 29, 1863 - J.P.P (Page 5)

  • West Point, Lee County, February 13, 1859 - Edward Mugford (Page 11)

  • “Forget me not.” 1863 by Ada S. (Page 14)

  • West Point, June 22, 1858 - William H. Mugford (Page 16)

  • “To Mary - Friendship is the sacred tie…” by E. H. Wheeler (page 18)

There are a range of names, but the locations are in St. Louis or West Point, Iowa (which makes the Lee County make sense). I do not know of the name Mugford and the pages are made out “To Mary” or “To Mollie” more than anyone else.

It is a large document, and so, here is the PDF of the file as well, retaining more of the quality.
