Grandaddy Gus (Ernst), Aunt Margaret (Maugie), and Granny Gus at the head of the table
Grandaddy Gus (Ernst), Aunt Margaret (Maugie), and Granny Gus at the head of the table. The photo was taken at Margaret and Elaine's house, which was on 728 Pebbleshire Lane, Barrett Brae subdivison, Kirkwood, MO. - Insights given by Melissa Coe, Granddaughter to Granddaddy and Granny Gus.
The one photo you have of Edna (Granny Gus) is actually a younger Pete - I can tell by the shape of her nose and the crease between her eyebrows. In addition, granny Gus was practically blind, and always wore Coke bottle thick glasses. Every morning she would sit at the head of the dining table in Webster Groves, drinking instant coffee out of a fine china teacup and saucer, doing the crossword puzzle in ink (she could see it better than pencil), talking to the parrot she had in a birdcage in the dining room. She was an avid reader, most of my fairy tale books are hers and she often gave book reviews throughout St. Louis county. Of note, she had macular degeneration, went completely blind around the age of 80 and subsequently learned braille, died in 1989 at the age of 98. I called her granny goose! - Melisa Coe
